“E ngaki ana a mua, e tōtō ana a muri”.

Those ahead weed: those behind plant.

Whare is an Associate with a strong foundation in architecture, masterplanning, and urban design, bringing over 17 years’ of experience across health, housing, workplace, infrastructure, and education. He pairs design literacy with delivery discipline to steer complex projects from strategy and consenting through procurement, construction and completion.

Whare is recognised for a proven track record working with iwi and hapū where cultural expectations meet technical and regulatory demands. His focus is on clarity and alignment – surfacing issues early, structuring governance and reporting at both governance and stakeholder level, translating vision into commercially robust work.

At Egmont Dixon, Whare is valued for stakeholder alignment, consent strategy and risk management, and the ability to turn objectives into built outcomes that endure in performance and meaning.

Whare serves as Co-Chair of Ngā Aho, the national body of Māori design professionals, and sits on the International Union of Architects’ Indigenous Taskforce. These positions reflect his commitment to advancing indigenous perspectives in the built environment, and they extend the insight he brings to Egmont Dixon – connecting local practice with national and global discourse.
